Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Cookies

I was making ninjabread men cookies with my son and decided to make a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cookie. It was a bit spur of the moment, so I apologise in advance for this tutorial being a bit rough.

We were given some Ninjabread men cookie cutters for a present and thought we would try them out. If you don’t have the cutters you can just look up Ninja Silhouttes on the internet and make a template to cut around with a sharp knife.

You can just use a basic sugar cookie recipe or other recipe that doesn’t spread too much when baked. I added some chopped up chocolate (fairly finely chopped) because, well let’s face it chocolate makes everything taste better. The chocolate does make it a little rougher on the surface but you can always turn them over and use the back if you want a flatter surface.

Step 1: Roll out your cookie dough, cut out the cookies, bake and allow to cool.

Step 2: Roll out some green fondant to about to a couple of millimetres thick. Using the same cookie cutters (or ninja templates if you don’t have the cutters) cut out the body of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. The head will be round so push in gently with your fingers to get the turtle head shape as pictured below:

Step 3: Put a little water on a back of the cut-out and stick to the cookie and smooth out.

Step 4: Take a small ball of brown fondant and press flat. Push the sides in a little at the top as pictured.

Step 4: Stick the chest plate to the cookie in the chest position and using a veining tool (or if you don’t have one a toothpick or back of a knife) mark lines on the chest. **Please note: at this point my computer went flat and I was going off memory and later when I looked at a picture of the TMNTs I realised they have a line down the middle and the squarish shapes down either side so I recommend you use a picture as a guide.

Step 5: Roll out some blue fondant (or red, purple or orange depending on which turtle you are doing) quite thin and cut a mask/bandana shape as pictured below:

Step 6: Using a little water stick to the turtles head and cut a small angled piece and stick it vertically to make to tie part of the mask. Mark in some eyes with a veining tool (or toothpick if you don’t have the  tool).

Step 7: To make to shoes roll out some brown fondant. Using the cutter cut out shoes for each leg as below and stick on to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle with a little water. Please Note: The toys seemed to have the shoes where as some other ninja turtle pictures had their feet sticking out or the brown was just around the knees you can customise this to suit yourself.

Step 8: With the remaining brown fondant cut out some small triangles and attach to the shoulders. Mark in some lines on the shoes and shoulders.

Step 9: For the hands on the outstretched arm cut a little V out to make a mitten shape. Round the edges a little and mark in some fingers. For the other hand get a small ball of green fondant and mould into a fist shape and mark on the fingers and stick to the turtle and your Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle is complete.
